In short. We collect as little as we can, we never sell your data, and you can ask us to see or delete it at any time.
1. Who we are
WideSprout is a family of independent publications run from Spain: widesprout.com, WideSprout Travel, WideSprout Stories, WideSprout Español and WideSprout Recipe. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
You can reach us about anything in this policy at thewidesprout@gmail.com or through our contact form.
2. What we collect
We only collect what we need to run the sites and reply to you:
- What you send us: your name, email address and message when you use a contact, pitch or partnership form, or write to us by email.
- Newsletter details: your email address and the newsletters you choose.
- Technical data: like every website, our hosting provider’s servers record basic request data (IP address, browser and the page requested) in security logs.
- Account and payment details on brands that offer a membership, such as WideSprout Español. Card payments are handled by the payment provider; we never see or store full card numbers.
3. How we use it
We use your data to reply to messages and pitches, send the newsletters you asked for, run memberships you sign up for, and keep our sites secure.
Our legal bases are your consent (newsletters), the steps needed to provide something you asked for (replies, memberships) and our legitimate interest in keeping the sites working and safe. We keep messages for up to two years, newsletter details until you unsubscribe, and server logs for a short period set by our host.
4. Newsletters
Newsletters are sent only to people who sign up. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also write to thewidesprout@gmail.com to be removed.
We use an email service provider to send newsletters. It acts on our instructions and may record whether an email was opened or a link clicked, so we can see which stories are useful. We do not use that information for advertising.
5. Cookies and analytics
widesprout.com only uses cookies that are strictly necessary for the site to work, such as the ones WordPress sets when an editor logs in. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party analytics on widesprout.com.
Each brand site may use its own cookies and will ask for your consent where needed. See our cookie policy for details.
6. Sharing and processors
We never sell your personal data. We share it only with providers that help us run WideSprout, under data processing terms: our web hosting provider, our email and newsletter providers, and payment providers for memberships.
Some of these providers are based outside the European Economic Area. When data leaves the EEA, it is protected by an adequacy decision or the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses. We may also disclose data where the law requires it.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to access, correct or delete your data, restrict or object to how we use it, take a copy of it, and withdraw any consent you have given.
To use any of these rights, write to thewidesprout@gmail.com. We reply within one month. You can also complain to the Spanish data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (aepd.es).
8. How to contact us
Email thewidesprout@gmail.com or use our contact form. A real person reads every message and we usually reply within 3 working days.
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we will update the date at the top of this page.
